I had to debug a solaris crash dump and had no ides. Google search wasn’t much useful until finally I found this article:

http://cuddletech.com/blog/?p+AD0-448

have a look at this article, this suggests how to debug the core and find the offending process and root cause of the core in case of kernel panic.

Unix shell script for removing duplicate files

2011-05-16 1 min read Bash Linux

The following shell script finds duplicate (2 or more identical) files and outputs a new shell script containing commented-out rm statements for deleting them (copy-paste from here):

Terminating a SSH session after starting background process.

2011-05-14 3 min read Learning Linux

This is too good. If you are planning to start a background process in the bash script in the background and continue in the script, you cannot do it until…….

You would need to close the stdout/stdin and stderr before you can terminate any ssh session automatically. Here’s some more light on this topic.

2011-05-11 2 min read Bash Database

Today I was looking for some way to put the output of the mysql output in an array in a bash script. Quick google search yeilded to results something like this:

  <td>
    <div class="text codecolorer">
      output=$(mysql -e "select * from table")
    </div>
  </td>
</tr>

The problem with the above approach is that all the words go into separate index. So if you have a line that has space then that is split into multiple index’s. Not good…

smbtree is a very nice command to check all the machines that are present in the LAN (your connected network). For this to work you may need to look at this article also.

  <td>
    <div class="text codecolorer">
      smbtree -U <strong>username
    </div>
  </td>

client lanman auth is disabled error for samba

2011-04-28 1 min read Learning Linux

The error:

Server requested LANMAN password (share-level security) but ‘client lanman auth’ is disabled

is easily fixable. You just need to tell samba that client lanman auth is enabled. And here is how to do this:

If you are getting this error then add the following in the globals section of the samba configuration:

client lanman auth = Yes

Ensure that you change this in the file /etc/samba/smb.conf
