Here is description of shotwell:

Shotwell is a new <a class="zem_slink freebase/en/open_source" title="Open Source" rel="wikinvest" href="">open source photo organizer designed for the <a class="zem_slink freebase/en/gnome" title="GNOME" rel="homepage" href="">GNOME <a class="zem_slink freebase/en/desktop_environment" title="Desktop environment" rel="wikipedia" href="">desktop environment. It allows you to import photos from your camera, view and edit them, and share them with others.

You can import the pictures by selecting, File -> Import and then selecting the folder.

You can view the full size picture by <a class="zem_slink freebase/en/double-click" title="Double-click" rel="wikipedia" href="">double clicking on it.

You can import the pictures by selecting, File -> Import and then selecting the folder.

Your photos are organized by date in the events section.

View the photo by double clicking on it.

You can do minimal changes to the photo like cropping and few other things. You can select the region to crop and apply and be done with cropping.

Similarly you can remove red eye. Select the region and click apply 🙂
