Check your session type – wayland or X11

July 15, 2019July 15, 2019 Amit Agarwal Leave a comment

With both wayland and X11 in mainstream, its pretty easy to forget if you are running in Wayland or in X11. To check this here are the commands:

loginctl list-sessions
# The above command will show you all the sessions. Note the session number for your session

loginctl show-session <session number> -p Type

conky transparent window on Fedora with Gnome.

July 22, 2013July 7, 2013 Amit Agarwal Leave a comment

On Fedora with Gnome-shell 3, its been long time that I was not able to get transparent window. So, finally I thought to spend some time to try to fix that. Finally got that fixed with all the configurations below in the conkyrc.  Here the default color is set to  LightSkyBlue but feel free to change that.

I hope this helps fedora community who is struggling to get transparent window. And here is the code :

own_window_transparent yes
own_window_class Conky
own_window_argb_visual yes
own_window_argb_value 0
own_window_type normal
own_window_colour LightSkyBlue
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

February 24, 2012February 5, 2012 Amit Agarwal Leave a comment

If you ever wondered what combination of some colors would look like but did not really feel like setting them in your xterm just to check them out. Or if you wanted to know about all the colors on you X window system then you can install this utility called xcolorsel.

xcolorsel
xcolorsel

You will need to setup the rpm-shere repo for this.

Using this tool is very intuitive, just select the color and then press set as foreground/background to check how the color combination would look.
